easter on mars
what will eventually happen when humans travel to space for Easter holidays?
Space tourism is interpreted in a figurative form of travel exploring the dimensions of tourism itself. ‘Why should we travel to space just to gamble or hike?’, ‘Is it the journey or the destination itself that makes such an endeavor worth it?’
A slice of the planet Mars is, in a way, landed on Earth and suddenly becomes an inextricable part of the surface and the surrounding landscape. This segment came from a transformation of the famous Valles Marineris canyon on Mars, now instantly accessible by Earthlings on their home planet.
A hotel, a casino and a restaurant pop-up out of the steep martian landscape. Other infrastructures like a spherical temple and sport facilities like a golf course and a hiking route also mushroom in between the canyon and the craters, offering the ultimate space experience.
Through a
critical approach, terms of mass tourism activity and alternative forms of
tourism (religious, casino tourism etc.) are being investigated, in an attempt
to find answers in questions like: ‘can vain humans find original experiences
in a dystopia like Mars?’
